Air Quality Diminished by Wildfire Smoke

Air quality listed as "hazardous" in the region; officials say to limit outdoor activity

CLARKSTON, WA - Officials say wildfire smoke has diminished the air quality in the region.  The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Forecast and Caution for residents of Nez Perce, Latah, Clearwater, Lewis, and Idaho counties, river corridors, and surrounding areas off the Nez Perce Reservation due to degraded air quality. Burning restrictions are in effect.

Clarkston Man Found Guilty of 2nd-Degree Murder

ASOTIN, WA - A 66-year-old Clarkston man has been found guilty of shooting and killing another man two years ago at a residence in the 1400 block of 5th Street.  Officials say Melvin O'Rourke shot 53-year-old Duane Hettinger on the night of July 30, 2015.  A jury found O'Rourke guilty today of 2nd-Degree Murder following a trial this week in Asotin County Superior Court. 

Sentencing has been set for September 18th.

Closure on Elk Creek Road Due to Bridge Replacement Project Beginning Sept. 25th

KAMIAH, ID - The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests would like to let the public know that visitors to the Palouse Ranger District should prepare for a closure on Elk Creek Road due to a bridge replacement project. This project will begin September 25th.

From the NP-CNF's:
Elk Creek Bridge, located at milepost 7.4 on FSR 382, is scheduled to be replaced later this month, requiring a closure of Elk Creek Road for public health and safety during the project.

Dewey Fire Update

KAMIAH, ID - Fire crews are continuing to work on the 15-acre Dewey Fire, located fire eight miles northeast of Grangeville near Harpster. The fire is still at zero percent containment. Lightning caused the fire which was spotted by a Harpster resident at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
