Proposed Bill Outlaws Studded Tires

House Bill 1309

GregCraber 1943

OLYMPIA, WA – Studded snow tires could be illegal if some Washington legislators get their way.  House Bill 1309 would make selling and eventually using snow tires against the law.  The bill would immediately increase the state fee from five dollars to $100 per studded tire.  January 1st, 2020 it would become illegal to sell the tires or sell studs to put in the tires.  On July 1st 2025 it would become illegal to use any tires you may still have with metal studs.  The penalty cited in the bill is $500 for use on public property.
