Clarkston Home Burns For Several Hours

***UPDATE*** Clarkston Fire Chief Steve Cooper says there were two occupants of the home. One survived, and the one taken to the hospital died from his injuries.

CLARKSTON, WA – Just after 2:30 this morning Clarkston Firefighters rushed to a home on 10th street for report of a home on fire.  When they arrived at 1310 10th Street, firefighters say they found the house with flames and smoke coming from windows on all four sides of the home.  Shortly after they arrived, they called for mutual aid help from The Asotin County Fire District and Lewiston Fire.  Both departments arrived within a few minutes to help attack the fire. 

Proposed Bill Cuts Washington Off At The Mountains

OLYMPIA, WA – Eastern Washingtonians could be under a state government east of the mountains if a house bill goes through.  House Bill 1509 has headed to the State Government and Tribal Relations committee.  The bill would help create the 51st state from the top of the Cascade Mountains to the Idaho border.  The border with Oregon would stay the same.

Sheriff Rodriguez Responds To "No Confidence" Vote

LEWISTON, ID – Sheriff Joe Rodriguez is responding to last week’s vote of “No Confidence” by 32 of the members of the union.  Rodriguez says it likely stems from two recent issues, one of which was a Facebook post that some people found offensive.  After it started circulating through angry citizens, he responded with the information that it had been posted on his account by his wife.  Sheriff Rodriguez says after that incident, he brought in an expert who specializes in social media, press releases, and other information.  Sheriff Rodriguez says he made sure to take the training along with the rest of the department.

Chinook Salmon Season Meetings Coming

LEWISTON, ID – Three Fish & Game meetings will discuss the upcoming Chinook Salmon seasons in the Clearwater region.  The region includes Clearwater, Hells Canyon, Lower Salmon, and Little Salmon River drainages.  During the meetings biologists will talk about what they learned from last year’s season and how they expect this year’s Chinook Salmon run to look.

Lewison City Council Meets Tonight

LEWISTON, ID – Lewiston City Council Members meet tonight to discuss several topics, one of which is the draft management contract with the airport.  Permission to buy a new fire engine for the LFD will be part the consent agenda.  It will cost $572,010.  An increase on fees on parks and alcohol is also a topic of discussion.

LEWISTON, ID – Drivers who use 11th Avenue should plan an alternate route this week.  It’s closed between 3rd Street and Prospect Avenue.  Construction crews are working on the sewer and placing manholes.

Heights Fire Burns Garage & Vehicles

ASOTIN COUNTY, WA - Asotin County Firefighters and medics rushed to a home on  Scenic Hills tonight for report of a garage on fire.  The detached structure had dark smoke coming from the doors when they arrived.  Firefighters from Lewiston Fire Department and City of Asotin Fire also rushed to help out.  Several vehicles inside the garage were damaged from the fire. 

Fraternal Order Of Police Vote "No Confidence" In Sheriff Rodriguez

LEWISTON, ID – The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 32 issued a vote of No Confidence against Nez Perce County Sheriff Joe Rodriguez.  Members of the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office make up that group.  A statement from Douglass Law, who represents the Lodge, says 32 of the 38 ballots came back as “no confidence”, one vote was “no opinion”, and five ballots were not returned.

New Steelhead Derby Coming Up

OROFINO, ID – A New non-profit group hoping to raise awareness and members is hosting a Steelhead Derby next month.  On February 16th, the Clearwater Chapter of Idaho River Community Alliance is hosting the derby at the Pink House Recreation Site just west of Orofino on Highway 12.
