GPS Problems Likely The Cause

LA GRANDE, OR – A missing La Grande, OR truck driver is back home.  Saturday morning Oregon State Police was notified that Jacob Cartwright had returned home and was headed to a nearby hospital for evaluation.  An investigation shows that Cartwright may have had GPS navigation problems that routed him off State Route 244 and onto Forest Service Roads. 

Firewood Season Starts Tomorrow

POMEROY, WA – Firewood permits go on sale tomorrow for the Umatilla National Forest.  You can buy them for $5.00 per cord with a minimum purchase of 4 cords.  The maximum limit is 12 cords per household.  The $5.00 fee is if you buy them at a Forest Service office.  You can also buy them from vendors for an additional fee, up to $2.00 per cord.

WSU Team Invents Virus-Testing Phone

PULLMAN, WA – For about $50, WSU researchers have come up with a portable laboratory on a phone.  It works nearly as well as clinical laboratories to detect common viral and bacterial infections.  Working with University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, the team’s device could lead to faster and lower-cost lab results.

LEWISTON, ID – The studs come off on Monday.  The Idaho Transportation Department is reminding drivers to get your studded tires off by Monday.  In Washington, the deadline was the 15th, and in Montana, it ‘s May 31st.  Wyoming allows studded tires all year.

CANYON COUNTY, ID – A routine traffic stop for an Idaho State Police trooper turns into a major drug bust.  At noon on Wednesday, troopers arrested Dakota Thorstenson of Duluth, Minnesota as he passed through Canyon County.

LPD Responds to Animals in Hot Cars

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Police Department has been called already this spring to reports of animals in cars in parking lots.  It’s starting to get hot and the inside of a car can be much warmer than the outside temperature.  LPD Animal Control Officer Doug Willey says now it happens more often now than it does later in the summer.
