KAMIAH, IDAHO – Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests officials are working hard to re-open developed campgrounds and other closed recreation sites on the forest as soon as it is safe to do so. According to Forest Service officials, most developed campgrounds may be closed through Memorial Day weekend, the same as most Idaho State Parks.

Clarkston, Wash. – Lower Granite Lock and Dam will be starting their summer hours for public dam crossing the weekend of June 5-7.

Summer public crossing hours are as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday - Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Winter crossing hours are projected to begin Sept. 7 and are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
Public crossing will be closed for Thanksgiving,
Christmas and New Year’s but is expected, at this time, to be open all other federal holidays unless notified in advance.

OLYMPIA, WA -- The Washington State Department of Commerce, in partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, announced an additional $4.089 million in grants to nine early learning providers across Washington. Grant recipients will use the funds to add new capacity, or purchase facilities at risk of being lost.

“These grants will help ensure all of our children are ready to enter kindergarten,” said Commerce Director Lisa Brown. ”Childcare is a challenge for working parents even in good times, but will become even more crucial as we begin to reopen our state and safely restart our economy.”

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Warriors were just getting started when the season came to any early end. Lewis-Clark State Tennis was set to start a tough road schedule against some of the top NAIA teams in the nation, but now have to wait until 2021 to finish what they started.

“It was unfortunate with the timing of events this year,” Head Coach Kai Fong explained. “Both teams finally had their breakthrough moments right before the season cessation. The players were so eager to continue and I remember how resourceful they became all of a sudden by offering all sorts of suggestions as to how we can still make the season work.”

U.S. price jumps six cents in the last week, Gem State price is up by a penny

BOISE – (May 11, 2020) – In a rare turn of events, Idaho gas prices are currently below the national average, even as both prices went up in the last week.  Today, the U.S. average is $1.85, which is two cents less than a month ago and $1.02 less than a year ago.  Meanwhile, Idahoans are currently paying $1.81 per gallon, which is 26 cents less than a month ago and $1.32 less than a year ago.  Currently, 40 states have average prices under $2 per gallon.

The Idaho Department of Labor is now making payments for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, which provides benefits to individuals who are unemployed because of COVID-19 and are not eligible for regular benefits. 

Payments will be made to workers who are not monetarily eligible for regular benefits and have no pending issues on their claim. 

WDFW and WSU Confirm Case of Elk Hoof Disease in Yakima Elk Herd

YAKIMA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today that test results from samples taken from a juvenile elk in the Yakima herd confirmed the presence of elk hoof disease, known scientifically as treponeme-associated hoof disease (TAHD).

The disease can cause hoof deformities leading to hooves sloughing off and even death. This is the first confirmed case of the disease in the Yakima herd.
