18th Annual Idaho Environmental Education Conference

LEWISTON, ID - The 18th annual Idaho Environmental Education Conference will be held tomorrow and Saturday on the Lewis-Clark State College campus. This conference is open to the public.

The target audience is for teachers and non-formal educators in Idaho, and college professors and students involved in either education or environmental sciences.

Idaho’s 2017 Annual Average Unemployment Rate Up Slightly to 3.2%

BOISE, ID - The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has revised Idaho’s statewide seasonally adjusted annual average unemployment rate for 2017 up slightly to 3.2% - one-tenth of a percent higher than the estimated 3.1% that was first reported.  The state's December 2017 unemployment rate was also slightly higher at 3% - revised upward one-tenth of a percent from the 2.9% reported before the benchmark.

University of Idaho Hemingway Festival Begins Thursday

MOSCOW, ID - The 2018 University of Idaho Hemingway Festival will be held Thursday through Saturday. This is the 9th year of the festival.

There will be a film screening of the documentary “Papa’s Shadow,” in which Hemingway’s son reflects on his father’s time in East Africa, a reading and dance party for the Masters of Fine Arts students, and a Fundraising Dinner in support of the University of Idaho's English Department's Hemingway Fellowship.

Washington Ecology Awards $220 million in Clean Water Grants; Asotin County Receives Two Awards

OLYMPIA, WA - Communities across Washington State seeking funding for important clean-water projects are about to get a significant boost from the Washington Department of Ecology.  The agency announced that it is awarding nearly $220 million in grants and loans to help pay for 230 high-priority, clean-water projects.  Asotin County will receive two awards worth $200,000 and $250,000 respectively.

WSU Releases a Risk Assessment & Safety Evaluation of its Residence Halls

PULLMAN, WA - Washington State University has released a risk assessment and safety evaluation of its residence halls. After a student was injured last August, WSU retained independent consultant Safety Management Resources Corporation to complete the review.

"One accident is too many, this is why we wanted an honest, objective assessment,” Vice President for Student Affairs Mary Jo Gonzales says.

LFD Reminds Community to Stay Safe During Winter Months

LEWISTON, ID - The Lewiston Fire Department would like to remind the community to stay safe and warm during the winter months. Officials says that while portable space heaters can help generate heat, they do present potential fire hazards and must be used with caution.

According to NFPA’s latest U.S. Home Fires Involving Heating Equipment report, which was released on January 9, 2018, heating equipment is the second-leading cause of U.S. home fires and the third-leading cause of home fire deaths.
