Last week, the Lewiston Bengals kicked off their season with a revenge win against Idaho Falls 33-14, last year they fell at the hands of the Tigers by just one point; but the Washington side of the LC Valley remained dormant as Clarkston prepares for their opening game this Friday against the Moscow Bears.
I briefly spoke with Clarkston Head Coach Brycen Bye, and asked him about last year, and his thoughts on this year's edition of the Bantams as well. Last year, Clarkston had a rough start, going 2-4 through their first 6 games, many teams would have thrown in the towel after a discouraging start like that, but not Clarkston. They stuck to it and ended up rattling off 4 straight wins in order to finish the season 6-4.
"The team showed a lot of grit and pride to finish the season on a high note", Head Coach Brycen Bye commented, "We're hoping to take that we ended with and pick up where we left off."
Clarkston will be without 4 starters on offense, and 4 starters on defense. They do however return their QB, leading rusher, three leading receivers, and their leading tackler. When asked about what players stuck out to him as far as training over the summer, Coach Bye told me, "There are six guys that come to mind: Kaeden Frazier, Kyden Bailey, Will Sliger, Dawson Packwood, Eddie Berglund, and Michael Harris."
Clarkston kicks off their season this Friday up the hill at Moscow. Moscow just won their opening game against Grangeville in dominating fashion 41-0, so this game could end up being a good test for the Bantams.
