PORTLAND, OR - The Idaho Vandals were held scoreless by the Portland State Vikings in their 24-0 loss on Saturday afternoon, knocking their season record to 2-5. Idaho has now lost three straight games, and are second to last in the Big Sky Conference standings.
Both offenses struggled throughout the first half, as both teams went to the locker rooms knotted at 0-0. Portland State would start the scoring in the second half on a 38-yard field goal from Cody Williams, and it would snowball from there. Idaho turned the ball over four times, two interceptions from each quarterback that saw the field in Portland. Mason petrino, and Colton Richardson combined to go 13-29 with 156 yards, and four interceptions. The Vandal offense as a whole only gained 113 yards in the second half, with 45 of those yards coming on the games' final drive, which ended in an interception off of a hail mary attempt.
Cutrell Haywood led Idaho with six catches for 56 yards. Dylan Thigpen put up career highs of 10 carries and 42 yards on the ground. Christian Elliss led Idaho with 14 tackles, a career high.
The shutout is the first for Idaho since Sept. 21, 2013, when the Vandals lost 42-0 at Washington State.
